This is the ship manifest for my great-great grandparents, Arie ALTER and Sara Hinde ALTER (lines 14 and 15). I know that the SI in the left margin means that they were held for special inquiry. In the "condition" column on the right, it says D. Certificate. Does anyone know what that means? I know they were going to join their son Nathan in Newark. I cannot find a list of those held for special inquiry at the end of the ship manifest pages. I have no idea what happened to them. I cannot find them in Newark city directories. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks-

1/2/2013 5:10 PM The notation is Dr. Certificate. They were held because of a health issue. The authorities were waiting for a Doctor's certificate before deciding on their admissability into the US.
