This document is the first page of a four part letter or affidavit related to the marriage of Abraham DECKER and Rebecka ARON. They were married in 1822 in Gauersheim, in the Pfalz region of what was then Bavaria. I would like to have a transcription and a translation of the document.

12/30/2012 12:41 PM This is hard to read, but I got the essence of it: Because Abrahams Decker could not produce a baptismal certificate, given that at the time of his birth, there was no Jewish birth registry, seven witnesses were called to give a declaration under oath about Abrahams Decker's identity, name and birth date. More details later. AS

12/30/2012 3:08 PM Translation:

On August 19. 1922 before [unreadable name], peace judge of the Kirchheimbolande Canton, [...] appeared Abraham Dekker, formally named Feiss Abraham, merchant Jew from Gau-
ersheim, and declared:
He inteds to marry Rebekka Aaron, illegitimate daughter of the late Michael
Aaron, formerly merchant Jew former resident of Mettenheim, Canton of Bechtheim, G[??]
[???] [???] and his still living wife E[?]
S[??]lig and to enact the marriage before the civil retistatrion officer of Gauersheim.
Because as a Jew he cannot provide a baptism certificate in due form as in previous times no baptism registries were provided at that place, the belowmentioned seven witnesses are called to give evidence of his first and last name, the time and place of his birth, his residence and the residence and time of place of birth of his parents […]
The witnesses appearing with the applicant are:
1. Isaak Stern, 70 Jahre
alt, agent [?] [?] in Reich-
sein[?].

3. Leopold Joseph, 58 years old, merchant Jew.
4. Joseph Bach, 61 years old, of the same profession,
5. David Mandel, 52 years old, of the same profession,

[at the margin:] 2tes und letztes Blatt

6. Jakob Haumann, 40 years old, merchant Jew,
7. Michael Strauss, 36 years old, of the same profession, the last six residents of Gauersheim;

who, after taking an oath to say the truth, made the following declaration:

We all have known the applicant from young age, he was formerly known as Feiss Abraham, is now called Abraham Dekker, his father has deceased, was merchant and died in Gauersheim; his mother Bele Ber[??] now Sara Dekker, from Gabriel[?], still lives in that municipality. We witness under oath that the applicant was born in the same place, specifically on [??] of the year 1797.
