This is a note written on the inside of a United States Armed Forces Jewish Prayer Book.

There are three lines of Yiddish. Please translate all three. Middle line contains the words "Rosh Hashanah" and "Africa."

The first day of Rosh HaShana in 1943 was indeed Sept. 30.
