I am looking for present day family, of Isidore Grunberg/Grinberg/Greenberg.
He was born in Galatz, Romania about 1875. He emigrated and lived in London, England. He was a tailor. Isidore was married, possibly with children. He separated from his first wife about 1926. Isidore learned that he
had a young daughter outside of marriage, born in 1919 in London, England. Isidore, this young daughter and her birthmother, emigrated to France 1927 or 1928. They lived in Paris, France. They were relocated to a camp in Drancy, France. There was a round up of Romanian Jews in September 1942. Isidore was sent to Auschwitz and died 5 days later. His original family may not have had any knowledge of Isidore beyond 1927. This is a photo of Isidore from abt. 1930 taken in France. There might be a resemblance
to his present-day family.

6/22/2012 11:44 AM I have a very bizarre story to tell you and one that may connect our stories. My grandfather's name was Samuel Greenberg (Gruenberg). He was orphaned when he was a boy and was taken in by a tailer whose name was Gruenberg/Greenberg. He moved to the United States , met his wife, Ethel and had 5 children. He named his only son Isadore. His wife Ethel died from pneumonia and he committed suicide 8 months later. The children went to orphanages and foster homes. My mother was his daughter.

Nothing of his past was known, except that he was raised by a tailer by the name of Greenberg. I believe his original name may have been Richman or Reichman. The fact that he named his only son Isadore may be just a fluke, or it may be that he named his son Isadore in memory of his foster father. But he definitely learned how to be a tailer from his foster father whose name was Gruenberg.

So, this is a huge stab in the dark, but does this strike a chord at all? Could a young boy have been an apprentice and an intern to your grandfather, in exchange for board? It's a compelling thought and one that would unravel a huge mystery with my grandfather if it were indeed true.

Thank you!

with his wife Betty in 1899 to London.
