This is the USA version of a passenger list - excerpted -- and I am trying to figure out what town and country Israel JOSEPH is coming from to New York. Separately I just posted the Hamburg version of the list. There is looks like Sidiken and here maybe ?

6/11/2012 2:15 PM It cannot be Lixen, because there is no letter "x". Note that the old German script "x" has a descender. ALso I would say that the town is written in the Latin and not the old German script. The agreement between the German and the Americal list is remarkable, given that this was written by different persons who belong to two different cultures. It is highly probable, however, that the clerk in New York just copied what he found on the Hamburg list.

I too read "Sidiken" There is a town called Sidiken in South Africa. The name of the country is not listed; however, the German list has a ditto mark in the column "Im Staate resp. in der Provinz" indicating that the name of the country is mentioned further up at a different entry. Because the poster has cut off the other entries, we cannot say what this coutry is, but by looking at the entire page, it will be easy to find out.

As for the country is says in the USA version Poland. I do not believe he had anything to do with South Africa.
