plaque placed by IDF in lodz cemetary. I believe it to be my grandmother. The date places her in the Lodz ghetto . Where can I get more info about her, and the rest of the family? IDF says name came from cemetary records.

8/4/2009 Hi David,
I was in Lodz 3 yrs ago and the Jewish Comm. Ctr. has computerized lists of various aspects of jewish lives in Lodz, over the centuries such has property, birth, marriage, burial, etc. Unfortunately, their records are not online. The Lodz archives remained intact after the war and the documents can be received from them upon request.
I hope this helps a bit,
Nava
8/10/2009 Hello David,

The Hebrew translates as follows:

Chaya Blima Sosnovitch.....????....died at the age of 62 years.......March 28, 194l.....

As for more information about your family, you might try looking through the JewishGen records for Lodz in Poland or look for the name Sosnovitch. If you cannot find it with the spelling you recognize, try spellings with the soundex system.

Hope that this is of some help...Jo
8/11/2009 Note: Yad LeZehava Holocaust Research Insitute in Kedumim Israel organized and cooperated with the IDF to mark over 2000 graves of Jews in the Lodz Ghetto section of the cemetery. This plaque is only one of the memorial markers of those killed by the Germans and buried here. There may not be more information than that given here and taken from the list of the Lodz Jewish community burial society.
