Commander Katz was probably a Navy Doctor most likely stationed at a hospital or medical facility at Subic Bay (Philippines) during WWII. Rosabelle Hamann was an American Red Cross Nurse serving in New Guinea and the Phillippines in 1944-45. Rosabelle painted watercolor portraits of the Soldiers she met and cared for. On the back of the original portrait it states "Commander Katz caught Jones cold in Ward 17".

If anyone can identify Commander Katz from this portrait or knows a Commander Katz that served in the war during this time please contact Diane Pirzada at www.dianepirzada.com or researcher 333086 - Beryl Susan Steinfeld.
