4/5/2009 "275 members of the congregation took part in the world war, and 31 died a heroic death. Today's leaders of the congregation: Lajos Weisz president, Samu Mozes head trustee, Ignac Blau, Sandor Blau, Herman Jager, and Laszlo Melinda trustees, Gyula Weiszberg prefect. The orthodox congregation was formed in 1881 with 40 members. The first prefects were Ignac Freund, Lipot Adler, Matyas Roth, and Zsigmond Grosz. Jakob Mose Schwartz was the congregation's first rabbi. After his death Saul Brach the rabbi of Nagymagyar led the congregation. The latter became the rabbi of Kassan, and in 1926 they elected Joel Teitelbaum the rabbi of Ilosva. Rabbi Schwartz established a yeshiva in 1883, and his successors developed it into one of the most famous yeshivas."
