04/01/2016  February and March Ukraine SIG report

Dear Friends:

If you have questions about any projects related to specific towns, please visit the Ukraine SIG website and go to the town page whose information interests you. Don't forget to check out the KehilaLinks page as well. Town pages are linked to KehilaLinks pages for that town or area.

You can find your town in two ways - looking at our clickable map and choosing a region and then a town, or putting your town's name into the 'town search' box at the top right of the website. If your town's name does not come up, it's possible that although your town is in Ukraine today, it is not part of Ukraine SIG. Ukraine SIG covers the guberniyas of the former Russian Empire that were in Ukraine in 2010.

As our process of document acquisition, translation, proofreading is completed and translations are submitted to JewishGen for inclusion in the JewishGen databases, the data goes through many more steps before it can be searched. Please do not email me with inquiries about when data will become searchable. The answer is always 'I don't know.' :-)

 02/03/2016  Ukraine SIG December 2015-January 2016 report

Hi Everyone:

This is a combined report of the work that was done in December and January. Proofread data will be submitted for processing in March.

We are two subscriptions short of 3700 subscribers to the UkraineSIG Discussion Group.

Dr. Eric Goldman, who was our SIG Speaker at the Salt Lake City 2014 IAJGS Conference will be heading up the Film Festival at the Seattle 2016 IAJGS Conference August 7-12. He has agreed to be our SIG Luncheon Speaker. This year's talk will be about immigration to the US using the film Hester Street for illustration. The film will be shown during the film festival. We could use donations to the UkraineSIG Speakers Bureau fund to support our ability to bring terrific speakers to conferences.

Under the 'donate' tab on the UkraineSIG website, scroll down - you will see the many projects listed there(including the speakers bureau) for which donations are being solicited. Please consider making a donation.
