Sub-Carpathia Ancestral Village

The houses shown
below—recreated in Kolochava and Uzhhorod—are typical of many of
the early village homes of Sub-Carpathia. Most were either a thatched roof or
a shingled roof house with one or two rooms.
Every item in the room had a purpose. For example, the hearth, used for
cooking, and sometimes located between two rooms, also served as the heat
source in the winter. Notice the bed located next to the hearth in the
following photographs.
