Rosie YODAIKEN was born in Lithuania on the 10th April 1890. Daughter of Avraham Menachem Mendel YODAIKEN and Bassa (nee LAPEDUS) YODAIKEN from Vieksniai, Lithuania.
 
She married Simon LAPEDUS, her cousin, in Dublin, Ireland and had the following children Mabel, Lionel, Bethel Stanley and Cedric. Mabel and Cedric both died in infancy
 
In 1922 she brought her 3 sons, Lionel, Bethel and Stanley to Cape Town, S.Africa to visit her sister and brother in law, Louis and Paulina (Yodaiken) SAKINOFSKY. She stayed a year! Her sons went to school in Cape Town and went back to Dublin with S.African accents and speaking a fair amount of Afrikaans.
 
Rosie was a very gregarious and outgoing personality, wildly extravagant and ran from Dublin to Paris, to buy her linens and her fashionable clothing. She had bridge parties, entertained lavishly, she was a wonderful cook and hostess, and was an excellent dancer. As her husband, Simon, was a much older man, she went dancing with her three sons to various dance cafés on a Sunday afternoon.
 
Unfortunately, (as with many of the YODAIKENS) she suffered with sugar diabetes and had two strokes, starting in 1954 and another in 1955 and became bed-ridden as a result. All the bridge "friends" suddenly disappeared after that and so she spent her days with her husband, Simon, and her sons, daughters in law, and her grandchildren.
 
She died in Dublin 9th May 1960 and then Stanley and Julie came to S.Africa in 1961 with their children, Anne Pauline and Robert Eric LAPEDUS .
 
In 1951 a book arrived for her from her niece, Maida Hassall Safinofsky, (Worcester, S.Africa) and the inscription read "To dearest Auntie Rosie, with Love, Maida (SAKINOFSKY) 5th Oct 1951.
