Philpot Street, in London's East End, runs some 600 feet north from Commercial Road to Ashfield Street (formerly Rutland Street), lying about 200 feet to the east of New Road. It originally extended a little further north, to Newark Street.

The synagogue was on the eastern side of Philpot Street, between Varden Street and Rutland Street (now Ashfield Street), and opposite the Philpot Street Sphardish Synagogue (at number 39). At one time, there was also a synagogue at 44B Philpot Street, the Ohavei Emeth Synagogue.

Closed in or after 1957 (last entry in marriage register). Amalgamated with Nelson Street Sphardish Synagogue

An affiliated synagogue of the Federation of Synagogues.

Local Authority Districts:

Philpot Street is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, created in 1 April 1965, within the administrative area of Greater London.

Previously, Philpot Street was in the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney (established 1900) in the County of London (established 1889), both of which entities were abolished in 1965.

Philpot Street had also been part of the civil parish of Mile End Old Town, which was abolished in 1927, to be absorbed into Stepney Borough parish, which was abolished in 1965.

    • Six Marriage Registers (first entry 6 September 1908; last entry 15 December 1957) deposited with Tower Hamlets Register Office (ref: s54).
      The Board of Deputies also holds copies of the following registers: January-March 1941 (ref:16/22a/1); and 1941-1957 (ref:16/22a/2), and gives the reason for cessation as "disused".
