Bolton

Bolton was a county borough in Lancashire, to the northwest of Manchester. In 1974, it merged with adjoining areas (all of which had been in Lancashire) to form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton within new Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester.  Bolton became a unitary authority in 1986 when Greater Manchester lost its administrative status, becoming purely a ceremonial county.

Name: Bolton Hebrew Congregation
Address: The Synagogue was at 12a Wentworth Street, Bolton, although in early 1960's (based upon appearance in Jewish Year Books) services were subsequently moved to the Queen Street Mission, Central Street. (presumably after sale of the Synagogue). 
Previously, the Synagogue was in Spa Road, Bolton, from at least 1911 until at least 1932.
Date Formed: 1904 (In the Jewish Chronicle of 2 October 1903, page 24, there is a reference to services being held for the High Holidays in Bolton and it expresses the hope that a congregation would be established.)
Current Status: Services ceased in late 1960's (address ceased to appear in Jewish Year Books)
Ritual: Ashkenazi Orthodox
