According to an article in South African Jewish Report for 14 September 2001, page 11, a reconsecration ceremony was due to be performed at the cemetery on Sunday 28 October 2001. Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft was due to officiate.

The cemetery was vandalised in November 2000 and three white teenaged youths were subsequently arrested, charged and sentenced to 18 month's correctional supervision. Pure vandalism was believed to have been the motive.
