Volunteers are the life-blood of LitvakSIG! In fact, LitvakSIG is staffed entirely by volunteers from around the globe. We need your language skills (Russian/Lithuanian/Yiddish/Hebrew/English – any combination), Litvak genealogy and research expertise, writing skills, fundraising abilities, finance and accounting skills, project management skills, and leadership skills. We can tailor your responsibilities to accommodate your availability.

We have the following positions currently available:

We need a person generally familiar with Litvak genealogy research – and willing to learn how LitvakSIG works -- to field incoming inquiries from our website and direct them to the proper individuals within LitvakSIG. We estimate this to be a role that takes just a few hours a week. All correspondence is in English.

DRG Coordinators are responsible for raising funds and coordinating the acquisition of records for all shtetls within a district. They maintain a list of qualified contributors, a list of available records for all shtetls within a district and for the district itself, and manage the process of raising funds and distributing data to the group. These positions require a solid time commitment on the average of about 4-8 hours per week. LitvakSIG has a website built that makes it easy to manage data distributions and can train you.

As we have grown, our Treasurer has identified a need for an assistant to help handle the volume of processing contributions. If you are detail-oriented and have a good accounting or finance background, please consider helping us in this position. We estimate it is about 4 hours per week.

LitvakSIG is in the midst of a massive project to translate Jewish vital records that were scanned by the LDS. Volunteers are needed to translate birth, death, marriage and divorce records and to type the translated data into Excel spreadsheets.

The main need is for Vilnius and Kaunas vital records.

We mainly need people to translate (mostly Vilnius and Kaunas VR) either Russian or Hebrew/Yiddish into English. Records for towns in the Suwalki Gubernia are written in Polish and we need someone who can thus translate from Polish to English.

The time commitment can be as little as a few hours per week to as much as you can handle as there are hundreds of thousands of records left to translate.
