MINUTES from Conference Call Board Meeting - Sunday, October 29, 2006, 8:00pm, EST:

The conference call began at 8:20pm EST, using a very low cost conference calling system.

Participating were: Carol C. Baker, Judy Baston, Ada Green, David Hoffman, Merle Kastner, Howard Margol, Mike Posnick, Aaron Roetenberg, Olga Zabludoff.

Treasurer Report - Aaron Roetenberg, followed by discussion of various financial questions:

  • Bank Balance is $52,671.63. The majority of the money is restricted to District Research Funds and Vital Records Translation Project funds. A small amount is in unrestricted general funds.

Update on Vital Records Translation - Aaron:

  • Joel Ratner is adding more translators.
  • Vital records have been sorted by town in individual files.
  • First batch of LitvakSIG vital records have been submitted for inclusion in the ALD.
  • Jewish Gen (JG) will redo the introduction to the LitvakSIG Vital Records page; index will be added to these records; JG will add the newly completed ALD indexes to the introduction to the databases.
  • JG Vital Records and JG Internal Passports to be included in the ALD shortly.

LitvakSIG/Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People - Olga:

  • Copies of the two agreements involved in this project sent to everyone on the board: the Israeli translator has prepared an inventory of Lithuanian Jewish records at CAHJP which will be evaluated and chosen on a project-by-project basis.

SIG Dues - 2007:

  • Option #1 - Nov. 1st as early payment date.
  • Option #2 - Jan. 1st date and no early payment date.
  • Consensus - go with calendar year - January 1st.

Status of Vital Records Projects - Aaron:

  • JG will review the intro and this will be added to the intro next week. Next week JG will point a link to the ALD and this will be searchable.
  • Unfilmed 20th century death records from Alytus and other towns - is there an attempt to look for a 3rd person to coordinate and raise funds to deal with these?
  • Consensus - these are very valuable.
  • A motion was made to get these records.
  • Ada Green would like to be relieved of the job of LitvakSIG Webmaster due to her heavy travel schedule. The website needs somebody who has the technical skills, maybe several people to coordinate.

Internal Passport Project:

  • Howard reported on the progress of the Internal Passport Project.

Salt Lake City conference:

  • Program - Suggestion - group all LitvakSIG programs into one entire day.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:03pm EST, 7:03pm PST.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Merle Kastner, Secretary.
