LitvakSIG is seeking qualified nominations for the election of LitvakSIG board members, which will conclude at the LitvakSIG Annual meeting on Monday, August 18, 2008, during the IAJGS Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Any LitvakSIG dues paying member in good standing is eligible to be nominated to the Board. According to the LitvakSIG bylaws, the board is composed of nine members.
The present board members whose terms do not expire are as follows:
This will leave three open board positions to be voted on in an election that will conclude at the Annual LitvakSIG meeting to be held in Chicago on Monday, August 18, 2008. The Nominating Committee is looking forward to receiving nominations for board positions to as soon as possible. Potential candidates may nominate themselves, be nominated by another person, or recruited by the committee. Along with the nomination, please submit background information about the candidate. Nominees will be asked to submit a statement summarizing their qualifications and experience and what they hope to contribute to or accomplish on the Board, and their ideas for the future development and continued growth of LitvakSIG. The deadline for submitting nominations and supporting statements is July 1, 2008. Individuals who are nominated as candidates for the Board of Directors must be members in good standing of LitvakSIG at the time of their nomination. The new Board of Directors will actually elect the SIG's officers. Members of the Board of Directors take on significant responsibilities for the operation of LitvakSIG as well as participating in decision-making to establish policies that affect the organization. Please consider this to be your opportunity to continue the successful efforts made by LitvakSIG since 1997 to acquire, translate, and make accessible the wealth of Lithuanian Jewish records to all Litvak researchers.
