Then there is the matter of errata… the array of strange mistakes made by the town registrars more than 100 years ago and which may hide the very record you’re trying to find: Akt Numbers duplicated or missing in the registrar’s year end index; entries that are totally illegible, even to our experienced team, and pages cut-off during photocopying. Without the cooperation of branch archivists, it will be economically impossible to clean up all the 19th century errors and because priorities vary, we anticipate this often will be a slow process.
