Notes:
Robinn Magid had been trying to verify a family legend for 6 years. Her husband’s great-grandfather Avrum Magid supposedly died from an asthma attack in Warsaw on his way to America from Tshoon ("Chuhn"), Ukraine. There was no trace in the surviving death records at the Warsaw civil records office, and with the difficulty of retrieving documents from the Ukraine, Robinn despaired of ever finding anything about of Avrum, learn HIS father's name or confirm the story.
But, in May, Hadassah Lipsius was in Warsaw, and as friends do, she tried to help Robinn. And here is the result: a photograph of Abraham MAGID’s matzevah clearly stating his father’s name David and that he was from the town of Tschon, Ukrainia!
To those of us associated with JRI-Poland, the Warsaw cemetery indices have been an especially satisfying new addition to our project.
