The Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw – also known as the AGAD Archives, holds more than 1700 Jewish metrical books for the former Lwów, Stanislawów and Tarnopol voivodships (now Lviv, Ivano Frankovsk and Ternopol oblasts in Ukraine). While these vital record registers are generally easy to understand, few are indexed.
The goal of the JRI-Poland / AGAD archives project is to create on-line searchable indices and once more enable researchers to order copies of records directly from the Archives using the order form linked to the search results.
For the AGAD records, there are no Mormon microfilms; making inventories will not be part of the effort. But, as in other projects, the major task will be fundraising to pay for the creation of the indices. The data entry work will be done in off-hours by AGAD archive staff reporting to and being paid directly by JRI-Poland.
