The JRI-Poland Krakow Shtetl CO-OP initiative thanks Howard Fink, Sid Gelb, Shala Rossheim and Itzik Shulder without whom this submission wouldn't have been possible.
Databases have been created for records pre-dating surnames. They are as follows:
1795 Census, 1798-1805 Births, 1798-1805 Marriages, 1802 List of Homeowners
The databases were created to facilitate identification of family surnames. One week ago
the databases were distributed to a small number of Krakow researchers. The response has
been tremendous. You can see the results for yourselves. But, most importantly, this is a
research project and we want your input.
Dan Hirschberg was kind enough to post the files at the following web site:
http://www.ics.uci.edu/~dan/genealogy/Krakow
Please visit the web site and download the files and then send whatever surnames you have
managed to identify, along with how you identified these surnames, to Judie Goldstein. She is the coordinator for the project.
Once a month this information will be sent to Dan in order to up-date the web site.
This site is not in competition to JRI-Poland, nor is it meant to be a searchable
database. This site is to enable us to research pre-surname data and put surnames to our
Krakow families. Once we have enough names identified, these databases will be sent to
JRI-Poland. At this time, we need information to add to the census, birth and marriage
data.
Another area you are encouraged to visit is the Shtetlinks Krakow site !
We are looking for surname input - any clues you can find - any bits or pieces - any
pointers for making this easier.
Please send in your family surnames or any other surnames that you can identify. If you
have any questions, please send them to Judie.
