  Local Events in May Commemorating Jewish American Heritage Month

  • Sunday, May 4, 4 PM: JGSGW sponsors author David Laskin, who will speak about his book “The Family.” 4:00 pm at the JCCGW, Rockville, MD. Private reception for JGSGW members only at 3:00 pm.
  • Wednesday, May 14, 7:00 PM: “A Nation of Immigrants: How They Shaped America,” Mc Gowan Theater, National Archives, Washington, DC
     
  • Sunday, May 18, 1:30 PM: JGSGW double-header program Professor Sanford V. Sternlicht will speak about “The Immigrant Saga: A Memoir of the Lower East Side & Early Jewish American Writers” and Robin Meltzer will present an introduction and crowdsourcing methodology in her role as Associate Producer for the documentary film: “"Stories from the Syracuse Jewish Community” (Jay Lurie Productions). B’nai Israel Congregation, Rockville, MD.
  • Monday, May 19, noon: JGSGW and JHSGW will co-sponsor Dr, Sanford Sternlicht, who will speak about “The Immigrant Saga: A Memoir of the Lower East Side & Early Jewish American Writers” 12:00 pm (noon), Library of Congress, African and Middle Eastern Reading Room (2nd floor, 220), Jefferson Building, Washington, DC.
  • Thursday, May 22, noon: Robin Meltzer will introduce the documentary film: “"Stories from the Syracuse Jewish Community” (Jay Lurie Productions). Library of Congress, James Madison Memorial Building (third floor), Mary Pickford Theater, Washington, DC.

NARA at the Movies! The US National Archives and Records Administration launched their online videos of its most popular "how to" workshops. These are short videos which range from 8 minutes to just over one hour. These workshops, led by National Archives experts, are available on the National Archives YouTube channel. Here you may find other "how to" videos on: military research, immigration research, census records, passport applications, public land claims, access to archival databases and more.
