Vera Finberg Bio

Vera Finberg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but grew up mostly in the Northeast, spending her high school years on Long Island. She graduated from Western Reserve University in Cleveland (now Case University) and then received a Masters in Library Science from Columbia University. Vera worked for the Fairfax County Public Library for more than 35 years and was the Business Librarian for the library system for many years and retired as a Regional Information Librarian. Vera’s parents emigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia in 1939. She loved the stories her mother told of family life in Bratislava and Vienna. Her interest in family became an interest in genealogy. Vera has researched and written three family books and visited family sites in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Germany, and Australia. Vera is an active member of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington, JewishGen’s Austria Czech SIG, and attended nine International Jewish Genealogy conferences.
