Press Report relating to the Bayswater Synagogue, London

Jewish Record, 10 October 1870

Letter to the Editor

“Sir, I think attention ought to be called to the absence of ventilation in the ladies' gallery of the Bayswater Synagogue on the Day of Atonement. After a feeble attempt on the part of an attendant to open a window failed, although it was particularly requested by several of the congregation, the ladies were doomed to inhale the atmosphere of the building, unrelieved by a single breath of fresh air. Can an executive be aware of such barbarism? Especially after the recent appeal from the Social Science Congress, for the freer admission of air into buildings, etc. If they have not read the instructive paper on the subject, I hope they will do so and prevent the same disadvantages from occurring again. - Lady Worshipper at the Bayswater Synagogue."
