South Shields
The port of South Shields is in the metropolitan borough of
South Tyneside (which, until 1986, was a district) in the metropolitan county of
Tyne and Wear, in the North East of England. Until 1974, South Shields was
a county borough in County Durham. It lies on the south side of the
Tyne estuary, opposite North Shields.
Only one Jewish congregation, the South Shields Hebrew Congregation,
is known to have existed in South Shields.
