"North Manchester" Jewish community. Bury was a county borough in Lancashire to the north of Manchester from 1899. In 1974, it merged with adjoining areas (all of which had been in Lancashire) to form the Metropolitan Borough of Bury within the new Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester.
