Affiliation:

The congregation was an affiliated synagogue of he United Synagogue, having had such status since the merger of 1949.  The Barking congregation had also been an affiliated synagogue from joining the United Synagogue in 1947.  The Becontree congregation had been an associate synagogue from joining the United Synagogue in 1927 until the merger.

Local Government Districts:

London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (known as the London Borough of Barking until 1980), created in 1965, situated in the northeast of the administrative area of Greater London.

The locality was previously within the county of Essex. It formed part of the parish of Dagenham in the former Rural District of Romford from 1894 until 1926. It then became part of the newly created Urban District of Dagenham, which was incorporated as the Municipal Borough of Dagenham in 1938. In 1965, most of the Municipal Borough of Dagenham was merged with most of the Municipal Borough of Barking to form the present London Borough.
