Widnes
The town of Widnes, close to Liverpool, was situated in the county of Lancashire, in North West England. Until 1974, it was a municipal borough, but it was then merged with areas of Cheshire to the south (across the Mersey), in particular, the urban district of Runcorn to form the district (later borough) of Halton. The whole district became part of the county of Cheshire. In 1986, Halton became a unitary authority, but remains within the ceremonial county of Cheshire.
Only one Jewish congregation, Widnes Synagogue, is known to have existed in Widnes.
