The historic city of Lincoln (population about 85,000), on the river Witham, is the county town and one of the districts of the county of Lincolnshire, in the English Eastern Midlands. There was important medieval Jewish community in the city. An small orthodox community exited in the mid-twentieth century and a progressive community has recently been formed.
