The town of King's Lynn, known as Lynn and later as Bishop's Lynn in the medieval period, is situated on the estuary of the river Great Ouse in the northwest corner of East Anglia. It has a population of approximately 45,000 and is the main town in the District of King's Lynn and West Norfolk in the county of Norfolk. The District was formed in 1974 on the merger of the municipal borough of King's Lynn with adjoining areas, and was initially just known as West Norfolk, adopting its present name in 1981.
The Jewish Community was founded in about 1740, but ceased to exist by the middle of the nineteenth century, although it was briefly revived during Ward War II.
