    Information

    There are references to Jews in Whitehaven, although very little is known about this congregation  We have assumed that in later years Whitehaven Jews travelled to nearby Barrow-in-Furness for services etc.

Whitehaven. ‘The first Barmitzvah in this Cumberland town, that of Harold, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Edgard, of 82, Lowther Street, was held at 62, School Street, the Rev. E. Slotki of Barrow conducting the service. Hebrew and religious instruction are given at the same address on Mondays from 3.30 to 6.30 p.m.’
