
Exploring the JewishGen Website
The purpose of this course is to enable newcomers to navigate JewishGen, and experienced 'genners to expedite their research.
There will be 5 text lessons and accompanying videos; the lessons contain many links to the JewishGen website. Student and instructor will interact on our Education Forum. There is no fixed time for this world-wide class.
We will be covering the following topics:
- An Introduction to JewishGen: Navigating the Ovals, First Timer Pages, JewishGen Tools (FAQ, Infofiles)
- JewishGen Communication: Using JewishGen to connect with fellow genealogists through JGFF, FTJP, Discussion Lists and Archives
- JewishGen Geography and Communities: Finding aids on JewishGen, using the JewishGen Gazetteer and Jewish Communities Search Tools, KehilaLinks
- JewishGen Database Research: Country Databases, Cemetery Databases, Holocaust Databases
- JewishGen’s Special Interest Groups and Hosted Websites
The instructor will answer general JewishGen usage questions.This is not a course for personal family research questions. For using JewishGen for family research, we suggest you begin with the Basic Genealogy Class or post your questions on the appropriate discussion list.
