Founded at the 18th annual IAJGS conference in Los Angeles -  July 1998
David Fox, and about 25 people found a room, and decided to form a group for people with ancestral roots in Belarus
SIG Membership - July 2003:  1,550 - largest in JG
First SIG to organize under JG 501 (c) (3) umbrella
First SIG to go all electronic

Accomplishments of the past year
The “13 CD” project continues with 9,000 records in the ABD
1907 Slutsk duma list, which contains over 4000 names
37 new web pages have been added to our website since last years conference
Thousands of new records have been added to the All Belarus Database
Our membership has increased to around 1550 members
Russian Jewish Encylopedia – 8,500 Jewish Names
Usvyaty – 1883-1889 Births, Marriages, Deaths
Many Name List from Landsmanshaften files at YIVO
Reexamined the SIG organizational structure.
Coming This Year
Consolidation of all the completed duma lists in the ABD
Additional birth, marriage, divorce, and revision list records from the “13-CD” project – not enough volunteers. Need $$ to complete and extent project.
Vileika District Revision Lists
Additional years and gubernnia – Vsia Rossia (Business Dir.)
New research methodology – need funds to accomplish!
Future Priorities
Encourage more people to volunteer their time and talents
Aggressive Fund Raising Effort
Complete started projects and initiate new ones.
Acquire additional CDs from the Family History Library
Acquire additional microfilms from the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, LOC, and Norman Ross
Digitize the microfilms that the Belarus SIG acquires and have the data translated by ???

(Experience with prior moderation duties helpful, but not required)
SIG Librarian
Knowledge of bibliographic format
Communicate with webmaster and research coordinator
Glean appropriate entries from discussions groups and other sources
Prepare and maintain a list that can be published on our website
Looking for a professional librarian with word processing skills and who has access to computer library catalogs.

Currently - No dues structure
Overhead currently provided by JewishGen/Museum
1550 members - less then 300 have ever donated
    GOAL: To have every member contribute at their own level to the Belarus SIG general fund and to projects of personal interest, as well as to JewishGen.

$255 for Mogilev vital records (5 donations)
$150 for Novogrodok records (1 donations)
$100 for Pinsk revision list records (2 donations)
$30 for Slutsk property owner records (2 donations)
$76 for Vileika Uyezd revision list records (2 donations)
Expenses
Since June of last year, the SIG has spent $1716
$1300 to researcher in Belarus for special Grodno project.
$185 Toronto Conference expenses
$203 London Conference expenses
Note: Approximately 1,000 outstanding to be paid
Donations Facts
Only 76 separate donations received in the past 12 months. Some people made more then one donation during the year.
Less then 5% or the 1,550 SIG subscribers made any donation to the SIG in the last 12 months.
