..       In the frame on the right side of this page you will find a list of all towns for which Jewish records may be accessed for the Czech Republic, including Catholic sources of Jewish records (and some Protestant records in Silesia) .   For technical reasons, the Czech accents were omitted before the list was sent to us.
..
This list has been graciously provided for us by Felix Gundacker, a professional genealogist for Austria, Bohemia and Moravia who has authored two books detailing the available records.   Following information about the books, you will find a table that provides an explanation for the letter codes accompanying each town entry in the list.  If you scroll down to that table, you can keep the codes in view as you look through the list of towns (click here).
..
Mailing addresses for various Czech archives are listed after the letter code table (click here).

NOTE:
Sometimes a Catholic "matrika" had some space in the back of the book for special entries. The oldest books sometimes mention illegitimate children in the back, instead of registering them within the normal birth records, as happened later. Sometimes also children of "non-Catholic" persons were recorded in the back of the registers, which mostly covered Jewish but sometimes also Protestants, Hussites, etc. There does not seem to be a clear rule when and where you can find such entries. Often the Archive staff automatically refers requests about Jewish children to Prague, stating that the local archives do not have Jewish material. This can be a case of the staff not knowing that the material exists, or that there is such a small chance to find anything that it is too much trouble for them to waste time looking.
